I bought my system with DVD burner in January of 2004. I didnt get round to using the burner untill the middle of 2004. My system came with nero OEM.
I had burnt a few Audio CD and data disk. When I disided i was ready to burn some DVDs I found the nero I had wouldnt do the job(nero 5.5). Then I realised I also had Power DVD and Power Producer bundeld into my origional system. So I installed both programs. The DVD burner worked for 1 recordings. From then after I would get error messeges during DVD bruning. Messages like " Power Producer could not find , IDE1004 or could not find DVD device". It would then advice me to renstall the software. Removing the software was a trail because during uninsatll I would be warned not to remove certain files.
Reinstalling didnt work. I emailed Cyberlilnk the makers of the PowerDVD software and they gave me there advice on how to uninstall and reinstall the software. I followed there advice and this didnt work either So I cleaned my system of all traces of both nero 5.5 and cyberlink software. I then bought nero 220.127.116.11 and installed that.
Everything went okay until it can to running NeroExpress.
Whenever I started the program the DVD door would open. The door would stay open until I closed it. Then if I hit the “get Disk info button” the door would open again and the message box would tell me that i didnt have a disk inserted.
When it came to burning a DVD Nero would take up to an hour doing it’s encoding then when the burning process started the door would open again.
It then took Nero 5 minutes to come up with an error message. Either " user has aborted nero or contact Nero support".
I then reinstalled my Window XP Pro and updated it to SP2. After letting my new instalation settle fo a couple of days I installed Nero 6.6.08 only to find I was getting the same problems as before( door opening).
I then removed nero and used the nero clean up tools to clean up my system and the installed Cyberlinks PowerProduce software. again the software would stop when it came to buring a DVD.
The only info I have about my DVD burner is :->
Drive : DVDRW IDE1004
Type : DVD-R/RW Combo Drive
Firmware Version : 0040
DVD door face has the word “dual”.
Cyberlilnk sugget a patch for there PoweProduce XP 4.0
The Cyberlink patch for the PowerProducer 4.0XP when applied came up with an error telling me the file I was trying to update couldnt be found. It then told me to reboot. Still no Joy so I unstall and clean up Cyberlink software.
I e-mailed Nero support and they told me "Please contact the manufacturer of the recorder in order to get the latest firmware for your recorder.
An old firmware can cause compatibility problems as well as burn failures.
Firmware upgrades for your recorder are provided only by the Manufacturer of your recorder. All firmware upgrades and support for upgrading your recorder’s firmware must be provided by either the recorder manufacturer or the OEM you purchased your recorder bundle from. We can not assist you in this, sorry.
This seems like the final solution but I cant make out the name of the maufacture. The DVD door has the word “Dual” on it’s face, so I guess that is the manufacter. I do a search for "dual dvd drives and the best I could find was this site and this link http://www.cdfreaks.com/drive/440 .
I am not sure which file to download. “Help some one?”
At the moment I have managed to insatll the old Nero 5.5, I can burn no problem, but it dosent burn DVD’s.
I assume my Burner is okay but I real dont know what to do to get it to burn DVDs. The CDfreaks link with the upgardes dosent idntify which patch is the right one or what to do if I try the wrong one.
I haven’t read over your complete previous post, but what I see is that you use firmware version 0040 (which is one of the first) on your drive. Firmware versions before 0043 can destroy your drive (BTC told this somewhere in the BTC Forum). So the first thing I would you suggsest is to update your drives firmware to the latest version. This can also solve problems with your drive if the media type you use is not supported. You can find the latest firmware for your drive here at the BTC frimware page
Thanks rfjr23 I followed this link http://www.btc.com.tw/drivers/zip/d...04_0151_IDE.EXE
and download the updater that did everything it said it would do. I removed Nero 5.5 and installed Nero 6.6. every thing seems okay, no more dive door opening when it wants.
The only problem I have now is that when Nero comes to burn a DVD it eject the DVD and says that the media type is not compatable with CD\RW. I wonder if what H3rB3i says is true… [Quote] "Firmware versions before 0043 can destroy your drive ".
How would I know if my drive was damged for sure. I have wonderd for the last 2 months if the DVD drive hardware was on its way out or being played up by SP2.
The DVD media I am using are fujifilm DVD+R and Sony DVD+RW.
I managed three months ago to burn some movies onto both types using Power DVD.
Thanks again for the help
I have a feeling there is some setting on Nero that I havent got right. But not sure as there is just too much information in the menus that dont make good reading.
