Dvdrw Drw-1s81

Hello all

I have been lurking around for quite a while chewing all the info in here without understanding many of them.

On Wednesday (4 days ago) i purchased an OEM Lite-On Drive for 100£ (british pounds). The drive was like this({HA 461} OEM 8x Lite On Dual Format +/- DVD Rewriter) in this page: http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/acatalog/Hardware_Section__.html

Though after instalation i saw that the name of the drive was: DVDRW DRW-1S81 which google said was a drive from this company: http://www.4kus.com.tw/products.htm and also the same was on “the firmware page”: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1724

This is a pic of box. this is not how it came to me but the Drive shon on the Box is Exaclty how my drive looks like: http://www.4kus.com.tw/dm/1S81_picture.jpg

The Drive Performs Great and has written both Data and DVD transcoding at about 13:36 minutes. (trancoding made using CloneDVD along with AnyDVD).

There is allready a new firmware for this drive but i am afraid to use it.

What bugs me though is why it is comming from another company? I paid for a Lite-On OEM not a Rebrand. Do u think that i should ask for my money back? If not do you think it is natural to buy OEms like that(rebranded products)?

What is the difference? You didn’t get a rebrand since you didn’t get a box. You did get a Lite-ON OEM. If you were expecting it to be recognized as a retail Lite-ON would be, then you shouldn’t have. If it was, then Lite-ON would have to provide full support through firmware updates which isn’t done for OEM products.

wow thanks for the fast responce.

ah i see. Well then it ws my bad. Yes i was expecting it to be recognized as a retail one but i was wrong.

Is there any guide or page describing what OEMs really are and what people should expect from them? Just so that we (or maybe I) know what to expect from an OEM?
