I have been trying to burn a fairly Large DVD, so i bought some DVD+R-DL discs… they are memorex band, i got them at a good price… but i have never had problems with Memorex brand SL discs.

Burner is an HP DVD 1040e with lightscribe,an DL capabilitys…

I just upgraded to DVDFAB 5… after reading a lot on here i tried the slowest burn speed, clone DVD option, selected DVD9… it gets to a small percent an fails… here is the log.

00:55:39: Clone process started
01:30:40: Clone process completed successfully
01:31:06: Burn DVD image (C:\Documents and Settings\Krypto\My Documents\DVDFab\Temp\Clone.iso) started
01:34:28: Task_2 failed! Error=122
01:34:29: Process failed!

any help is appreciated, let me know if i left out any info that might be needed!

Thanks!

1x is too slow and I think that is the reason the process failed. What is the rated speed for your DL disc? If rated 8x then burn at 4x, if rated at 4x then burn at 2.4x and do not go any slower than 2.4x. I always burn my verbatim DL 2.4x at 4x or 6x and have no problems

#3

The only highly recommended DL media is Verbatium for burning as the other brands are more subject to burn failures, Try getting some and try again at the burn speeds GJ recommended. Even though you haven’t had any trouble with Memorex media down the road a year or two you will find that they won’t work anymore as the dye has faded out

#4

The rated speed for the disc is 8x the slowest speed DVDFab would allow was 6x or maybe a bit slower… even though i set it in settings to burn at 2.4…a window pops up an asks what i want with a list that is much smaller than that in settings… 5th time this same scenario has happened… SL always work great…

If you could post the entire burn log, it’d help a great deal.
There no telling what the MID (media ID code) is, although it is likely Ritek…not the best media for sure.
As Jimbo suggests, use only Verbatim + R DL (MIS…made in singapore…you’ll have to look on the spindle label for this info).
At least then, we can rule out the media as a problem.

Your burner is a LiteOn…a solid drive…this is an external with a usb connection right?

Unfortunately, HP pretty much just plain sucks with their firmware support.
I believe you’d be a whole lot better off crossflashing to LiteOn firmware, but I haven’t really looked into this yet.

The burn log will give us your current HP firmware as well as some other stuff.

You should see something like:

how do i see the total burn log?? what i posted is all that was shown as activity,i then saved the log… thanks

#7

copy and paste the information in the log file found:
My Documents/ DVDFab/ Log

#8

The burn log should be auto-saved.
Unless you changed the default location…

The default location is:
C:\Documents and SettingsAdministrator Name\My Documents\DVDFab\Log

There are other methods to get some of this info, but this should be the simplist…

#9

I guess I am interested in this as well, as I just recently got the same type of DVDs to burn to. However I have a HP840 …

I have been able to use the disc so far to burn data to … but when I go to copy my DVD, it seems that DVDFab tells me to insert a media disc.

#10

Just updated to version 5.0.85 and was trying to burn video_ts folder into verbatim dl media using recommended write speed but process failed http://club.cdfreaks.com/images/smilies/6/sad.gif I let the program to send error report so I hope it will help to fix the problem

:Z…I concur…
BTW, did I mention :Z

Sorry not poking fun at you and please don’t take it personally.
Problem #2, hp has horrible firmware support as I mentioned previously. Some ppl. can get some decent burns out of these Ritek’s, but I wouldn’t recommend 'em or buy them again.
Your burn log indicates that your firmware simply can’t handle this media.

Is this burner still in warranty?
I’d think seriously about crossflashing to LiteOn which has outstanding firmware support…official and 3rd party.

Here’s a push in the right direction…courtesy of Albert:

yeah those discs are not many peoples favorite.

Try burning one at 4x instead of 8x. Sorry i don’t have any experience with your drive.

Good luck and for DL media, go with the verbs suggested in post #5:wink:

#18

OK… im pretty sure i did it right… as now the drives name is lite-on…etc instead of HP DVD writer… i got some verbatim media… i thought i would try to do a full disc burn in DVD 9 @ 2.4x it failed as usual… i am now trying to run it in CLONE…

is there anything i might be missing??

#19

no luck using clone either…should i scrap this suposed DL capable drive an get a better one??

#20

Did you use the utilities and crossflash as described in the link I provided?
Bummer…
I know you must be getting fed up…any chance you could post a couple more burn logs?
Thanks and sorry for your trouble
