Thanks Ting and O’C. I am downloading Nero 9.2 trial to see if it can do this and another that DVDFab has failed on.
To give you a bit of backgrou, I think DVDFab is fantastic, but not perfect. I started ripping my video collection on my Mac using Handbrake and tried a bunch of other software inside a VM. I ended up with DVDFab because it was able to rip more things than the other applications I tried and it did it more quickly (or so it seemed to me).
To get serious about the ripping and storage, I built a server with one 2.4G Quad-core, 6G of memory, 5Tb of RAID-5, 3Tb of temporary storage, and two 20x DVD drives.
I first “copy” the disks to the temporary storage using DVDFab’s “customize” settings to pick the chapters, aspects, and angles of interest. I then set up a batch of Rips from those Video-TS folders to rip down to h.264 format (again with DVDFab). I like doing it this way because I can leave my server ripping for days without my interaction.
This worked really well until I tried to rip some disks of Murder She Wrote (an old TV series) and Mission Impossible (again, the old TV series).
Yes, I did try the rip title by title, Ting, there are no error code. The application thinks it is carrying on. The timer continues to count, but the FPS number drops to 0. On this title it is always at 14.50% when it happens. I have tried it without the closed caption, I have tried it as two-pass. Every time, at 14.50%, the FPS drops to 0 and the process stops.
I will try re-copying the disk and/or ripping directly from the DVD and let you know.
I will try Nero and report back.
FYI: I have also had problems with Wal-e. Near the end of the movie the audio gets delayed significantly. Well, it may happen sooner, but it is not until 3/4 through that it becomes clear.
