Dvdfab platinum problem

vbimport

#1

Hello all i currently use dvdfab platinum most current version 4.1.0.2. I am having issues with copied movies. I make a copy and everything seems to go well and my dvd player wont play it. But if i use the same external burner on a windows xp machine it works just fine… I am on vista 32bit on my laptop any help would be greatly appreciated. I even tried setting my writing from packet to sao but no help. Here is a snip of my log.

hi kaine 13x7 – welcome to the forums

I notice from your log your using DVD+R’s — some older standalone players simply refuse to read a disc which is not identified as DVD-ROM.

I would suggest if you can using DVD-R as these these tend to be more compatibale with players and ensure in the setting’s this has the “book type” (I think) set.

I’ve not used this book type but do know it exists with DVDFab’s setting so apoligies if I got the name wrong.

Also media wise, I’m not sure how good RICOH is but the everyone here seems to rate Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden (TY) – persoanlly I use Verbatim and very, very rarely get a bad burn.

Hope this helps.

Asbac

looks like we are close here. SAO writing is for DVD-R and BookType or BitSetting is for DVD+R. and i highly recommend using dvd+r booktype as dvd-rom. i can see one drive, what other burner do you have?

as for why the same burner produces non-working disc on different computers? this is a good question. which i doubt anyone really knows. just need to trouble shoot with what could possible be different for each computer. google is your friend.

will the non-playing disc play in other dvd players or on your computers? how are you connecting the external burner to your computers? do you have updated drivers on both computers?

your burn log shows LG GSA-U10N DVD-R SLIMLINE Notebook drive. is this the same burner you are using external?

I use memorex dvd+r and have never had a problem until got new laptop with windows vista. As for the external dvd burner it is a memorex dvd burner 16x not sure on model number. I just saw the set booktype to dvdrom. I enabled it and am going to try burning the movie again. I have burnt over 500 memorex dvd+r 16x and never had one fail until now =(. will post back with results thanks =)

Just tried it again with the booktype set to dvd rom to no avail sigh =(. Here is log of most recent attempt. Any help would be much appreciated. And the external burner was setup through usb2.0 but i dont want to use it anymore just my notebook drive. Also the dvds seem to play on my laptop but not either of my dvd players.

kaine13x7, you not say what movie you trying to backup or what region it is. Alos is it PAL or NTSC?

#7

its pretty much any movie. This particular one is resident evil ntsc region 1. I live in america so any movie would be ntsc and region 1.

couldnt find much user information on your drive. i was able to find one report that it does not support booktype, bummer.
http://www.360mods.net/Forums/viewtopic/t=6077/view=next.html

also according to Dell documentation writing DVD-ROM is not supported.
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/storage/P158405/en/specs.htm

i stress the booktype because this makes the dvd+r disc appear to be dvd-rom disc which is most compatible with dvd players.

well your burn log looks good, so thats good. only thing i see is that the MID (media id) of your disc indicates RICOHJPN-R03-04. this disc may have given you 500 burns with out trouble, which is awesome. however i know someone will tell you to use only verbatim or taiyo yuden. as this is the recommended dvd blanks here at cdfreaks. i myself have grown to really like TY dvd+r 8x with a mid of YUDEN T02.

so to stick with the same burner and same disc, first try lowering the burn rate to 6x. if this doesnt work try using imgburn also set to burn at 6x. i really like imgburn and the more you use it, im sure you will grow to like it as well.

oh and try doing main movie mode for now. this way we can eliminate dvd structure and compression settings, for now.

hope this makes since. good luck.

also i have videos i posted on youtube about dvdfab. one you might want to look at is Settings. i actually use ImgBurn, but stuck with VSO for the video.

good news i resorted back to dvdfab v 4.0.6.2 and what do you know dvd burnt flawlessly. i noticed on my xp machine that it was the older version so i went back in time and everything works perfect. Using the laptop burner with memorex dvd+r 16x. Something in the new version must not like me.
Here is log i spot nothing different cept the version.

now 2 for 2 burning resident evil extinction. One question i have is it seems like it takes a long time to load the menu and what not. Do you think that is due to path player?

#11

must have been a dvd structure issue.

i was really going for the burn.

i typically only use main movie, but this was supposed to be fixed in 4.0.1.0.
When preserving menus, the unselected titles will not be played. In previous versions, the unselected titles will be converted to empty title and will be played.

a while back when i used to save the main menu i did notice slight playback delay. even in a few cases had to press the skip button to access the menu.

i noticed that your last two burns were 4.19 Gb. and 3.89 Gb. so your not doing full disc. are you using customize with preserve menus? im still learning about pathplayer so i can not comment on whats happening there. since you dont seem to be using the pathplayer options you could disable pathplayer and see the results?

since your drive doesnt support bitsetting. you might get a small package of dvd-r disc and see if you like them. as dvd-r is more compatible with dvd players than dvd+r. (unless you can booktype as dvd-rom)

edit//

I use memorex dvd+r and have never had a problem until got new laptop with windows vista.

its my opinion, that if you have any burning issues? it will be the combination of your slim type drive and the RICOHJPN disc. slim type drives are problematic and as far as i know only a few manufactures. im sure this will soon change.

#12

for your original problem you can try a clean uninstall located in stormjumpers signature and then reinstall the latest version. As for the menu taking a long time to load you can disable pathplayer to see if it helps.

#13

yah i use customize. I only keep the movie menu and the best english audio and english subtitle. I scrap the rest. i will try to get some dvd-r. Any suggestions on a good medium?
