For some reason I was forced to upgrade to 22.214.171.124. The icon on my start menu changed to that generic one where windows doesn't know what to associate the file ext to....and it wouldn't read any of my dvds....kinda weird. Anyways since upgrading it sure crashes alot. Sometimes it won't read a dvd forcing me to close and "end program" it to restart it. Other times I get the error message asking for all my info and the official crash log.Anybody else having these issues? And hopefully another upgrade coming to clear these up?
Try doing a clean uninstall courtesy of StormJumperVISTAXPDon't forget to post back and let us know if that worked for you.
I'll give it a shot. I'm running Vista 64 bit btw.
What do you mean by "forced " also what's this about a generic icon are you talking about what the system will provide if an icon is not given by an app
You may want to do a system wide maintenance and scan for intruders  also use a good registry cleaner if you don't have one you can use CCleaner it is very good and thorough... it's not the best but it is a freebie ..make sure you set it to clean the prefetch folder
Yes the icon that was displayed was the one it shows when not given one by an app. By forced I mean the day the icon changed it wouldn't read a single dvd. I did the upgrade check and it downloaded the new version. Then the icon went back to normal.
Running AVG Free, Malwarebytes and CCleaner keep my machine running smooth. All Free apps.
If for some reason your machine will not see DVD's, try uninstalling the drivers through Device Manager and reboot, Windows will reload them.
