DVD writer failure

My LG writer has suddenly stopped writing DVD image (ISO) files. I rip files onto my hard disk with DVD Decrypter, create the image with DVD Shrink and burn to disk with DVD Decrypter again or Nero. Of late, both Decrypter nor Nero have been giving me error messages.

I have found a partial solution but that cannot be long-term. Using System Restore, I took my settings to a date before the problem started. I then uninstalled and reinstalled the three programs. Decrypter then wrote a couple of disks but stopped doing so after I used Nero to transcode an avi file to VOB.

I had to use System Restore again. I managed to write another DVD with Decrypter, then tried to see if Nero would work. It didn’t, and Decrypter too stopped writing. BTW, both Nero and Decrypter had simulated the write without reporting a problem.

I obviously cannot keep restoring my system all the time. I have no idea if that will work forever either. Uninstalling and reinstalling my hardware does not work either. Can someone help me with a longterm solution please?

Here are the log reports:

Hi and Welcome!
My LG writer has suddenly stopped writing DVD image (ISO) files.
What about other files?

Here are the log reports:

DVD Decrypter

Device [3:0:0] HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-H4n RB01 (G:) (ATA)

Decrypter is too old at least for burning. As seen in the log, it even can’t detect your drive properly.
Use ImgBurn instead. It’s Decrypters successor.

You’re rather low on memory. You should stop all other unneeded applications that are running in the background.

This is not a good idea since your computer is low on ressources and with media that might be of only average quality. Lower the burn speed to 8x. Maybe this helps.

Michael

Couple of things you can sort out, there’s more. You could also check for a firmware update.

Try 8X.

EDIT: Oops, too slow.

Thanks for your quick replies, mciahel and beef barley. I will try to follow your advice.

Problem solved

It appears the problem was happening because of a large number of files (total 11GB) saved as System Volume Information. Most of it was information about various restore points and I deleted the lot. The result was that I have no restore points as of now but I suppose the PC will automatically set new points as time progresses. The important thing is, I can burn DVDs now.
Thanks again for your suggestions, mciahel and beef barley. I am using ImgBurn now. DVD Decrypter for ripping, DVD Shrink for reauthoring/shrinking, Nero (old version, failed to update) for transcoding and menu authoring, ImgBurn for burning.
