My DVD writer is software blocked from reading DVDs. CDs are OK. If placed in another PC it works and it reads DVDs at boot time but not in Win XPMC SP3.
When a DVD is loaded it spins it up looks at it briefly (approx 2-3 secs) then stops - it would normally take longer. I believe something is recognising it as a DVD disc type (data discs and video don't work) and simply blocks all access. Explorer shows it as blank. Attempts to access the drive makes the PC very sluggish.
I guess its some sort of copy protection software or rootkit.
Does anyone of ideas of what it is and how it might be removed?
