I have a problem writing DVDs and i don’t know whether it is hardware-, software-, or media-related, hence my posting it here.
Recently, I installed a Philips 1620K DVD RW in my Pentium IV system running Fedora Core 3 test 3 and I have been using K3b as a front end to growisofs v5.21 and mkisofs v2.01 to make data backups on DVD. The first DVDs went well, then I intermittendly began to get write errors part way through the process, aborting it and rendering the DVDs useless.
The growisofs comand as issue by K3b is:
/usr/bin/growisofs -Z /dev/hdb -use-the-force-luke=notray
-use-the-force-luke=tty -use-the-force-luke=dao -dvd-compat -speed=8
-gui -graft-points -volid film archive -volset -appid K3B THE CD
KREATOR VERSION 0.11.17 © 2003 SEBASTIAN TRUEG AND THE K3B TEAM
-publisher -preparer K3b - Version 0.11.17 -sysid LINUX -volset-size
1 -volset-seqno 1 -sort /tmp/kde-colin/k3bvK3Bwa.tmp -rational-rock
-hide-list /tmp/kde-colin/k3b2RC1Ha.tmp -full-iso9660-filenames
-iso-level 2 -path-list /tmp/kde-colin/k3bZNk7ma.tmp
Increasingly freqently, the writing process is interupted by the the following error message:
unable to WRITE@LBA=14ba40h: Input/output error
builtin_dd: 1031408*2KB out @ average 3.0x1385KBps
write failed: Input/output error

Anyone got any idea what is going wrong?
