I have a little problem with my TOSHIBE Drive, it doesn’t read DVD but it reads CDs… what happened and how to fix that??
What type of “DVD”?
DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, original DVD 8.5 GB and 4.7 from computer magazine… it doesn’t read any kind of DVDs I’ve heard that this is a normal problem in Toshiba’s DVD… is that true??
sorry about my english, I’m not fluent at…
No that is not true. I have a Toshiba SD-M1712 and it reads DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, and DVD+RW with no problems. My friend has an older SD-M1612 and it’s a pretty good reader too. Anything after the SD-M1712 is made by Toshiba & Samsung, from what I’ve heard.
Maybe your drive’s laser is losing it’s “callibration”? I don’t really know. What do you guys think of those commercial cleaning CD’s with the little brushes glued on?
I’m not saying that this problem is in every SD-M1712, but I’ve heared that few people had the same problem as I. Do you think that cleaning could be a solution?? But isn’t it strange that this drive is reading normal CDs?? ;(
It is firmware dependent, at least for Toshiba 1612 and 1712.
What firmware is on your 1712 and what drive revision does it have?
You can find it out easily by using Hijacker’s DISCINFO tool!
Firmware version: 1004
Do I have to download new drivers, but where I can find it??
It’s working… wow cool, I’m so happy thanks chef
Some firmwares for the 1612 wouldn’t allow reading of DVD+R media and DVD+R media booktyped to DVD-ROM.
Shouldn’t count for the 1712.
