Is it possible to read a DVD and then burn it on to CD(s) in a format such as SVCD or similar?

If so, what software would I need to do this? Thanks

There are few commercial products that can rip a DVD (Denda DVDeo) but they suck, because you can get all the tools for free.

The most common format to rip a DVD is DivX:
-Small size, most movies can fit on 1 cd.
-Good quality
-Can’t be played on DVD players

The SVCD format:
-Larger size, movies need 2 or more cds.
-More quality loss.
-Can be played on most DVD players.

You need:
-Divx Codec 4.12 or 5
-DVD ripper/encoder like Virtual Dub.

Here’s a link where you can get info: http://www.divx-digest.com/software/index.html#encoding

Or check http://www.divx.com

The above only applies if you are the owner of the dvd and you’re not going to sell it of course, otherwise its illegal.

Thanks for the info!

I also found http://www.vcdhelp.com a great resource on everything DVD.

I wanted the end result to play in a DVD player and after reading all those instructions for SVCD I think I’ll just risk not backing up my originals.

Theres a program called DVD Cpoy Pro that reckons it will enable u to read a dvd then burn it staight to a cd but i dont know if it works, never tried it.

Its a con… I read the product Disclaimer, and basically you are buying a guide to ripping DVD’s, not the software, which in the disclaimer says it is available for free but NOT even included. They are just marketing it as a software package… tut tut!

You can try a new DUP-DVD , very easy to use. ( only vcd & svcd )

Where can you get this program???..sounds cool and have you seen the stupid ads about copy a dvd straight away.

#8

Think ! Use Google.com to find out

#9

Have you actually used DUP-DVD? Sounds a bit suspect to me…

#10

Yes I did. Go to www.dup-dvd.com and find out by your self  ( only vcd and svcd ) Let me know… after you buy.

#11

ok, I downloaded the demo and will try it as soon as I can…

#12

I see a lot of spam telling me that I can copy dvd to cd spam email’s. There are other methods than paying for this software that comes on a cd and gives a guide. It is called http://www.vcdhelp.com

and other places I cant think off the top of my head.
Hmmmm but will have to try it out and see if it works or not…
Of course only I OWN the original cd.

#13

Remember that all the above only goes to show with dvd-video
It is not possible to rip a software dvd to cd (or you have to divide it on several discs)

#14

So Digital Fire did you try it the DUP_DVD ?

#15

No, sorry I didn’t. I got as far as downloading it, but never bothered actually trying it.

I just replaced my DVD player and it is not capable of running SVCD anyway (although I have couple of SVCDs I watch on my computer).

Did you/have you tried it? If it’s any good I’ll bear it mind…

You are still offering illegal software by telling everyone you will send it to them via email. This is against the rules also.

not the first time he’s offered this particular software either, i believe.
