DVD Server questions

Lately I have noticed that my kids are tearing up my library slowly but surely. What I would like to do is buy a movie or cd and rip it to a media server that would sit in the garage and then just stream it to any of the xbox’s, pc’s or htpc’s throughout the house.

I have quite a few questions.

What front end should I use to interface with the media to conveniently view and play the library?

CD’s will of course be mp3’s but what is the best format to store the dvd’s? Ideally I would like to store each dvd as an image like a .iso in order to minimize the amount of files I have to deal with. Can I even play a movie straigh from a .iso? If not please suggest a better format.

If there are any articles or tutorials of similar projects that you can link to I would appreciate it. Thanks guys

Hi,

I’d recommend some MPEG4 format like Xvid or Divx, as this is much smaller and easier to distribute via network.
