DVD+RW without Manufacturer ID writing only 2.4x?

Hi,

I’ve bought a new LiteOn 812S which is able to burn the DVD+RWs with 4x.
My old one (NEC 1100A) is only able to use 2.4x.

Now I want to write my DVD+RW at 4x but NERO (and other programs) gives me only 2.4x. The labels of the RWs are Verbatim, Fuji, Ritek and nonames. They are certified 4x.
There is one DVD+RW packed to the new burner. This one works at 4x.

Then I checked what’s the difference between the new one and the old ones. Only on the new one is a manufacturer ID.
I think the burner needs this ID to set the correct speed. If he don’t find this ID he uses the lowest speed.

Is it possible that my old burnere cleared this ID (I’ve used many different firmwares)?
Is it possible to update this ID?

I searched in the firmware with OmniPatcher whether there is a entry without an ID or a default entry for unknown media but I can’t find anything.

Hope for help.

Hi
No. You cant update the id of the disc cos it is pre-recorded. Also, if your burner doesnt allow you to write fast theres no chance. at least code do a special firmware for you that allows media id 001 ( i suppose) to be overclock . but this is quite risky to lost your media.

ron

Thanks, for your reply.
But the medias I want to write to are certified for 4x burning (Verbatim / Fuji).
I don’t think that these discs are coming without ID - so I think there is a way to clean this code.

If it’s possible to update the media id 001 to higher speed then I have to be careful but I would be able to use this discs (I don’t want to buy new ones).

hmmmm. try to get the media code 4m dvdinfopro pls.

My question is, what firmware are you using? Secondly if you use dvd identifier you can find out the media code and post it here. But I would like to know what firmware you have before you start trying to overspeed RW media. If it’s anything older than US0N, I would reccomend and update.

All +RW discs should have a media ID. It is not possible to erase the MID from a disc. I think that the NEC ND-1300A cannot find the ID for blank media, so always use your 812S to check the MID for the discs.

Now I’m at home and checked my +RWs.

My drive is a TEAC DV-W58GA@LiteOn SOHW-832S with firmware VS04.
I’ve run this tests also with the original TEAC firmware - the same.
I get the same infos on my old DVD+RW NEC1100A.

I don’t want to overclock the specs of the +RW.
I only want to write my 4x media with 4x. But without ID I can only use 2.4 for this media. And I think the Verbatin +RW 4x should work at 4x.

For testing I’ve used DVDIdentifier and DVDInfoPro.
All the medias I checked are written.

The first media is the new one which works at 4x.

I have much more discs (SWISSTEC DVD+RW 1x-4x / MEMOREX DVD+RW 2.4x and many nonames) but it’s all the same.

Thanks for your answers.

when you have this dvd+rw recorded or first recorded on the old nec nd1x00 writer.
an you have not a atip copy on this dvd+rw - dit disks be ricoh w01 or w11.
the old nec make only on this both dvd+rw not a atip copy, dit can read.
will you reactivate, or will you the atip readable while you will recording at 4x, then must you make a quick format with NON COMPATIPILITY CLOSE with you liteon burner and you can the atip read. you can this make with dvdinfo.
i self have this make with 2 platinum burned on nec nd-1100 and have now a ricoh w01 2.4x and w11 4x rw.

Thank’s pharao11,
that seems to be the reason.

All the discs are formatted with the old NEC1100A.
After formatting with the LITEON now there is an ID on the disc.

And now I can write the 4x certified discs with 4x.

I think I will give my old NEC one more try to see what will happen to the discs. It’s possible that one of the first firmwares had this bug.

thank’s alot.
