can i just put a dvd rw in my computer pc CD writer/DVD rom and if i do will it work or do i have to install a CD RW in my pc.

If you have media on the DvD-RW disk that you want to play or data files that you want then yes you can. But you can not burn to it.
To burn to a DVD-RW you need a DVD burner, your existing combo will only read from it as already stated.
