DVD-RW | Panasonic vs. Toshiba vs. LG

hey guys.

i need a new dvd-rw slim-drive for my Fujitsu-Siemens E-7110 notebook.

The 3 possibilities are:

- Panasonic UJ-820B

- SD-R6372

- LG GWA-4040N

somebody said, that he would never take a panasonic/matshita-drive, because of its poor quality?!?

they are betw. 30 and 40 Euroes @ eb’'y

which one of those 3 drive should I take?

nice greez from Tyrol/Austria

Markus

Definitely LG GWA-4040N or any other LG’s slim drive. I have a personal experiences with all three brands - Toshiba was a pure crap (I cannot remember which type my father owned, it was returned after a few days), Matsushita is a very mediocre drive (quite incompatible with many DVD±Rs, but good in reading damaged DVDs, at least in my experience), LGs are a decent drives.

@ kontschi,

Welcome to the Forum.

Any Matshita / Matsushita / Panasonic slim line Drives are problematic poor performing Drives and should be avoided.

bjkg

hi guys.

alright, I’ll take away my fingers from panasonic drives.

LG has got 2 slim-drives in its offer:

  • LG GWA-4040N
  • LG GMA-4082N
  1. I can’t find any differences between those 2 drives. Do you?

  2. Does anybody know if one of them or both fit into a Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook E-7110?

  3. Do you know some alternatives next to the LG drives??

Hey guys, where are you from? This forum is quite cool, and I can practise to use my English

thx a lot

ng Markus

You might check www.geizhals.at for prices in Austria.

I am satisfied with my LG GSA-T20N slim drive - it’s a bit noisy but certainly better than any other slim drives I have used (Toshiba/Samsung & QSI - extremely unreliable in about everything, OptiArc - very bad in reading, Matsushita - bad burner)

    Yes, I do.
GWA-4040N doesn’t support DL discs nore does it support DVD-RAM. When speed matters, CD burning is also faster (24x).

I’m very pleased with my 4082N in a Lenovo C2D laptop.
A very good reader on all types of media also. :flower:
