I just posted the article DVD+RW alliance skips 12x speed.

With 8x speed DVD-Burners currently out and 16x from BenQ, LiteOn, Philips, Pioneer and Sony expected for July 2004, the DVD+RW Alliance is not going to make specifications for 12x…

I think that the manufacturers like Sony etc should get it right at the 4X level first before they try to sell us a faster speed that is not going to work properly on all Media for a long time, that is if we are lucky to see the faster media soon for 16X…

Well i can’t wait for 16x i was thinking of getting another 8x in the next few week but i think i will just wait a few month and get the 16x :).

What is the point of burning at a speed where checking the integrity of the burn afterwards is a must… as stated above, stabilise things at 4x and above before moving on. Technology where the consumer is the beta tester sucks…

That’s how it always is with new technologies. If you don’t want to play beta-tester, then sit back and give the DVD burning world a couple of years to mature before buying. I did that for CD burning. Being the beta tester is the price for getting the latest and greatest.
