DVD - rom writer

Hi all , hoping for some advice. Sorry in advance if this has already been posted somewhere.

I have a LG DVD-RAM GSA 4163B dvd writer. Only now i dont! Basically it will no longer write dvd's , it still copies CD's and reads everything. I have tried different copying software ie NERO and CloneDVD but the result is the same , an unreadable disk. My other DVD drive copies fine. I checked all the cables etc , it just suddenly stopped working no error messages just very slow 20 mins plus and then even longer to write borders and eject. I tried upgrading firmware and changing the IDE driver.

Is their anything i should check before throwing it out and getting a new one. Its about 3 years old and has done 500 plus DVDs in its time , is this a normal life span.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Hi Jannerman, welcome to CDFreaks!

It’s possible that your DVD burner has reverted to PIO mode instead of DMA mode.
I suggest you read this thread for how to check if you have that problem, and also how to fix it:
