Looking for some help. I am helping a friend get a better machine put together. I moved a lite-on DVD-ROM from an older machine to a Compaq P4 machine (it also has more memory and hard disk space). The DVD-ROM plays CDs without a problem. The Compaq is running Win2K. When first attempting to play DVD's it didn't have any software. Interactual was loaded but no DVD decoder software was found. I've subsequently loaded version 2.8 of PowerDVD (Interactual was uninstalled) and it will now start playing a DVD in the PowerDVD window.
But here comes the problem, after a minute or so of movie playback the drive just stops and movie playback just stops. I can click on the next chapter button on powerdvd and it then starts playing the movie at the next chapter only for the drive to stop playing again after a minute or so, this process can continue, but not really useful to trying to watch a whole movie. (The drive light goes out when it stops playing and comes back on again when the skip function is used).
The graphics card is not great and does not have Direct3D support. Directx v9.0c or similar is loaded. As they have games for their child to play that need Direct3D I intend to stick in another graphics 3D card.
As it uses Win2K I haven't checked the DMA option, expecting automatic set up to be pretty much right . But is there any other ideas out there what might be happening? I will check the DMA. But my thoughts are that is not the issue.
