hey guys,i am still confused about the new dvd versions of games. Has anyone made a working backup and are there recorders that support raw burning yet?
Not that i know of / same thing.
SecuROM on DVD : same as SecuROM on CD (irregular density of sectors). Because there is no raw writing possible on DVD, the twinpeak method can't be applied. RPMS could work, maybe it will be implemented in future Alcohol versions. If plextor supports Gigarec on DVD, we could use the same "hack" Blindwrite uses with the plextor premium (but it seems plextor does't want us to do this...)Securom on dvd can be emulated from a virtual drive.
Starforce on DVD : according to http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=95246 , it exists. No hope yet.
Safedisc on DVD : Macrovision has dropped bad sectors. I found a few "suspicious" sectors contained in the 00000001.TMP file (which is 20MB on a DVD instead of 2048 bytes on a CD), maybe they are "DVD weak sectors" ?There is also an disc type check performed, and because all drives can report if the disc is a pressed DVD or a DVD-R / DVD+R (Nero InfoTool can tell it anyway), we can't at this time make a working backup of it. This check could however be easily bypassed with a little emulation (we can hide ATIP on CDs, the same could be done on DVDs).Safedisc protected games on DVD can be run from a virtual drive.
I made the same experience as docdocdoc9 ,
you can play SafeDisc and SecuROM protected DVD games using virtual drives. I used BlindWrite for SecuROm and Virtual CD for SafeDisc to create the Images. Starforce is the same endless story as with CDs...
thanks guys,i guess well just have to wait for raw dvd burners for 1:1 backups then
