Are you looking for a stand alone player or a drive that fits in your computer?

There are many options for players, like this one at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-DVD-S38-Progressive-Player-Black/dp/B0038KNNJY

This slightly more expensive Panasonic is more versatile for non-traditional formats, like divx: http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-DVD-S58-1080p-Up-Converting-Player/dp/B0038KTYAQ/ref=pd_cp_e_3
That may not be a concern for you though.

If you are looking for a drive for the computer, the Optiarc 7240 or Samsung SH-S243N come to mind. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151216

For standalone units, my LG RHT497H supports DVD-RAM, and so far it’s been great. The model I have has a 160GB HDD also, though there are also models with no HDD. Supports DivX and all the usual as well.

For PC drives, the ones Kerry mentioned should do the job nicely.

If the main application is DVD-RAM, then I’d go for a LG. They have a very long tradition in supplying DVD-RAM capable drives.

I wasn’t aware that applied to the 7240s. The few times I’ve seen DVDRam mentioned with this drive it seemed fine, like the review here at MyCE.

Hard for me to recommend LG since I don’t keep up with the dvd burners from them very well. When did they last release a dvd drive anyway? They’ve come out with a blu ray burner fairly recently. Edit: Dang, even that was over a year ago.

Maybe I should do some more reading and less talking!

Thanks for the info, Michael - you learn something new everyday here

My Sammies seem to do OK with it though (although the latest model I have is only the 223F).
