DVD-RAM pre-backup writes

[qanda]This thread is about the Panasonic SW-9576. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]Hello,

I’m awaiting my new DVD-RAM drive and some media and I read somewhere (I’m sorry but I can’t find a link anymore) that, after formatting, it’s good to completely fill a new DVD-RAM 3-5 times and erase it afterwards before putting sensitive data on it. I read that it has to do with changes of the structure of the disc.

So, my question is: is there any truth to that?

Thank you.

Thank you, would I need to do this for my writer?

I cannot comment on standalones, I have only read tests & reviews regarding optical computer drives.
Probably you dont need to be worry about this with your device.

Thank you, I’m trying without any prewrites now. But I reformatted the disks to reduce sector size and have an additional disk/bad sector check.
