OK, I know there are probably tons of threads about this, but I thought I had it all figured out until I burned my first set of DVD’s today, so maybe someone can clear up my confusion!

I thought the +r/-r stuff was all about playback compatibility. I have a relatively old DVD player (Sony DVP-S360) that was not an expensive player at all when I bought it a few years ago. I think it was about $200. When I got my Plextor 708A burner, I was not sure if I would be able to use either format of burned discs in my player, so I bought a small pack of -r and +r discs to burn some tests. To my surprise, they BOTH worked in my player! I was using Memorex media. Am I just extremely lucky or is there something else to the -r/+r stuff?
