I am completely a newbie when it comes to burning DVDs, I've only just got my Nec 2510A a few days ago (With latest firwamre), Anyway, I have a problem with media. My main purpose for the purchase of a dvd burner is to backup my own dvds so I can play them from a copy, To save the origional from being scratched, My problem is, choosing the most compatible media. I tested burning my "Veronica Guerin" dvd as it is only 4.25gig (not dual layered) and I used DVD Fab Gold, platinum or whatever (From http://www.dvdidle.com) to copy and burn the full dvd (It apparently removes CSS, Marovision etc...). The media I used to burn on were Infiniti 8x printable cds which a guy on ebay told me were good compatability (I ordered 2 to test). Here are my results:
My DVD Player drive (NEC): Read dvd perfectly, like origional
My tv dvd player (The one that goes into the tv): Read just like the origional so I guessed the copy worked.
My Bros old Hitachi DVD ROM Drive: Uhh Ohhh... Put the disc in, Loaded up Power DVD, "No Disc Inserted into Drive V:", Stuck in the origional disc, Movie played perfect . This really bugged me. I know its old, But it would refuse to read both the movie backup, and a few things from my hard drive back up on the second piece of Infiniti media. I guess it has some compatability issiues :Z
My question is, Is this a media problem, or is it a burner problem (or a copy protection). As I say, These are MY DVDS, and I need to protect them, The easiest way, is to burn them Now, I notice Verbatim, DVD rs which are more expensive and only write @ 4x (Infinitis write at 8x), will these be more compatable? I would need a dvd disc that will be read in most dvd players, inc. old pc dvd rom drives, game consoles (X Box, PS2 etc...) and of course normal dvd players. This is really killing me :o  ,
I Would really appreciate any help, Sorry for being such a newbie
