I bought some 8x DVD-Rs today from a local computer store (Canada) and they are not recognized at all in my Benq 1620. I searched google for the numbers printed on the hub, and I found a Japanese page that had a picture of the disc with the following info:

No matter what I do, the drive says that there is no media in the drive…

Yo-

Welcome to these boards-

Those are some of the best media around (if they are NOT fakes)-

You say that your drive does not recognize the media - what program are you using that is telling you that??

Do your self a favor and build yourself a signature (using “user CP” in the upper left of this page) - mine is below - and tell us all about your system, etc - then you will get more help-

Nero 6.3.1.17, Nero Info Tool, DVD Info, DVD Identifier, DVD Decrypter ALL say that there is no media in the drive… The CDs that I bought are silver on one side, no label markings, and they were 50 for $26.oo (8x). I just got the burner, and I bought a pack of DVD-Rs with it that were 50 for $1o.oo, and I had NO problems with any of them… I think that they were Yi-Jhan001 or something like that…

I got the disks to work in another burner, a Sony DRU 500a, here is the media info…

Are these fake TYs?

Yo-

What does your Nero “system info” say about the Benq drive? Is it even recognized by “system info”? What does the Nero Info Tool then say about your drive on the “configuration” tab?

BTW - looks like your media is not fake-

Can you tell me what Canadian store you bought these at and what name they were sold as?

Thanks

#7

I Bought them at TigerDirect in Markham, they were 2x25 packs for something like $26.99… All it said on the case was 8XDVD-R , and the bottom of the case had a sticker that said “Generic DVD-R 25pk”

Nero recognizes the drive as D:\BENQ DVD DD DW1620, DMA on and autorun on, It’s on my Secondary IDE channel as the master, there is no other drives on that channel… Oh, and I upgraded it to B7T9 last night, and there is still no luck… I tried another type of disc also, Optodisc R004, and it won’t read those either… I have no problem with those Yi Jhan -r disks though…

Grr…

I don’t know if their is a firmware dump reader for the benq but the one for the NEC showed me what discs are compatable and the speeds. I thought FUJI 8x DVD-R’s would be good…Not. they show as prodis cF0 and are not listed in my firmware. My nec wont hardly read the media code using DVDINFO Pro and will not write to these disc’s. Period! These are made in Taiwan. Now I bought some FUJI 8x DVD+R’s and these are listed as YUDEN000T02 and made in Japan. These 8x disks burn at 16 on my burner and ar Bang’in. Rip and burn a 2hr movie in 19 mins. Yes at that speed the riplock has been defeated. Anyway it seems that most burners seem to like plus R disc’s better with the exception of a few. Buy the way those FUJI’s were on sale at BESTBUY last week for $8.99/25pak no rebate. Thats .36 per disk. Pretty reasonalable for a small quanity. I bought 2- 25paks, but now I wish I had bought 4. O well I’ll keep watching the specials. Sale is over

Do you have latest firmware version B7T9 installed on the BenQ?

#11

Yep, I have the B7T9 installed… AFTER the discs are burned on another computer, they are recognized by my drive…
