DVD+R, DVD-R which is right for me?

My P[B]ioneer DVR 220S does a wonderful job playing a prerecorded DVD or music CD, but I can’t get it to accept blank media for recording!

Most of the problem lies in the fact that I do not understand the difference between the recordable DVD formats (DVD-R, DVD+R, etc.). I need to know what type of disks to use in my DVR 220S before tossing more money at the problem.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Then it looks like you should stick with DVD-R media.
