Dvd-r Dl

Hi.

If I understand correctly the DVD-R DL media comes with the BookType set to DVD-R and cannot be changed. Now if I have an old standalone DVD player which does not support DVD-R booktype and cannot be firmware upgraded, then my only option would be to buy DVD+R DL disc and burn it with BookType set to DVD-ROM ? If that is so, would it mean that DVD+R/W/DL media is (can be made) 100% compatible with all DVD players and DVD-R/W/DL is not ?

Thanks for the answer(s).

This booktype is so old that the only reason for this would be that the player is blacklisting this booktype

No, but close to, assuming that you don’t use crap media
and DVD-R/W/DL is not
The difference is only important for DL media. DVD+R DL (with booktype dvd-rom) is much more compatible than DVD-R DL. The problem is that a lot of players don’t expect a disc with booktype dvd-r to have 2 layers.
