Got an HP SOHC-4832K, searched the web and found it's really a slowed down Lite-On SOHC-5232K and with a bit of help from flashfix the Lite-On firmware will go on it. (I didn't use a backup program to save the original, that was not smart, I know.)
Checked with Nero and it has DVD+R DL read support but not DVD-R DL read. "Plus" it's also noisy as hell reading at 52x. If it's not going to support both DL formats it may as well be quiet about it.
I'd like to put the latest HP OEM firmware on it, but it's installer won't do it. Extracting it with WinRar pulls out an .iso file, which is 1,834K. Burned to a CD-RW there are two files, bootcat.bin and bootimg.bin (There's also a floppy disk image and a program to make the disk from it.)
If I set the computer to boot from this drive and have that disc in, will it load the HP OEM firmware over the Lite-On firmware or will it brick it?
