DVD-R compatibility

Hi all:

I’m definitely a “newbie” when it comes to DVD recording and burning. I recently purchased the SONY RDR-GX7 DVD recorder as well as the Toshiba SD-P 1400 portable DVD player. The 1400 claims to play DVD-R’s but despite trying several different brands (FUJI, Maxell, TDK, etc…) that I’ve run through the SONY recorder, no success.

I recently checked the Toshiba site and discovered something NOT in the box instructions, that being the asterisk specifying that the DVD-R has to be recorded using the “DVD Video method”. Before I waste another disc, is this the same as the “DV” setting on the SONY?

Thanks for your help!

I don’t know about that DV setting , but when you write using Nero , you can select the kind of media type your dvd is. Wether this is a data dvd or some movie format.

To record a dvd movie , you MUST comply the conent to the DVDVideo standard (with the two maps called AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. The VIDEO_TS map holds all those nice .VOB files).
