Hi,

I am unable to burn DVD (data) on my TSST DVD RW drive with Nero 10 burner, resulting a lot of DVDs in trash. Sometimes it works for DVDs also (1 out of 10). But yes, it works fine for CD writing.

The copy of LOG is as below:

Try burning at 8x instead…I know Sony’s are usually ok for some but try some Verbatim discs…Sorry can’t help with Ner0, I don’t use it, I’m an Imgburn guy…
Actually just notice you mentioned a DATA burn…I’d try Imgburn… Anyhow, good luck!

It seems your burner doesn’t particularly like these Sony disks. You have a few options, including slowing down the burning speed to 8x, update the firmware on the drive and/or going to different media.

Your current firmware is ID01, and the latest is ID02, which can be found here: http://www.firmwarehq.com/Samsung/SH-S223C/files.html

You can also try some Verbatim brand dvds. Make sure to get a package that has AZO on the label…this indicates that you are getting a “true” Verbatim rather than the plain CMC made disks. Stay away from the “Life Series” Verbatim disks.

Another good type is Taiyo Yuden. You can buy them online at sites like rima.com and supermediastore if you are in the US. I’d buy the +R 8x Taiyo Yuden disks if I were going to the trouble of ordering online.

Thanx buddy, i’ll try imgburn instead. Also tried before with some other discs, is firewall (nod32-eset) a problem?

It does not hurt to have some rewritable dvd’s on hand while diagnosing a problem, then you are not wasting so many dvd’s.

That’s right ! But, i rarely burn on trial mode. I am experiencing this issue for last few burns. Ah, its only after changing the DVD drive itself, when it started not reading the DVDs !!!:a

Also referring to the other posts, now my firmware is updated and imgburn installed. Shall update the positive result soon…

Thanks a lot…

Thx again for all the inputs !!

Now i’ve updated the firmware to ID02 and using imgburn for data writing. Successfully burned 2 DVDs and 2 CDs till now. Hope it may last long.

But, the only question in my mind is, “Nero being such a good product why it is not recommended?” and was my problem with the firmware or NERO or my Firewall - NOD32 (ESS V4) ?

If somebody help me on this…

Besides, i will take yours’ note on selecting the blanks (Verbatim - 1st priority).

Many thx…

The problem was not your firewall. It shouldn’t be involved in the burning process. If you didn’t change the burning speed, you probably helped yourself by updating the firmware.

Many years ago, Nero was a lean program, very much recommended. Versions 5 and 6 were not bad, though at the 6th incarnation, they started adding a lot of bloat to the program. I don’t believe either of those versions will work with Win7 operating system, and possibly not Vista either.

Even now the burning section should be ok. Its just that there are better, free options available. ImgBurn is my choice. Some people like CDBurnerXP, simply because they are not fond of the user interface in ImgBurn.

And if you must spend money on a burning program, look at Cheeta DVD Burner. I personally see no reason to buy a program like this while ImgBurn is available. Of course I have to admit I’ve contributed to the author of ImgBurn a couple of times, so I guess I’m spending some too.
