I wonder if someone can help me. I bought a BTC 1008 to burn some DVDs to later be watched by my stand-alone DVD player. It is dubbings of my VHS tapes.
The stand-alone player only seems to "digest" DVD+R so I am using this type of DVD. Results are very unpredictable however.
More than one out of 2 DVDs will play with breaks and skips on the player, (that is wil not play.....) others will play fine.
All of the disks pass the reading test with NERO or DVDINFO, no reading errors;
however I see a tool named K-Probe can give you more detail on the actual errors and have scanned my DVDs with this tool, although I have noticed it is not actually designed for the BTC burner.
But the only DVDs who work fine on my stand-alone player are those who perform reasonably well at K-PROBE and there is no exception to this rule.
However there is no way to link the working DVDs to a specific brand.
Memorex (Ricoh) are sometimes working fine, sometimes not.
Same for PLATINUM (actually RITEK R02) and Verbatim.
Results are nearly the same either using NERO or another burning engine, you cannot tell if the disk will be fine or not, even if they are the same brand and specification.
I tried these brands because I have read Ricoh and Ritek have reputation for manufacturing good media.
I tried some TDK and IMATION media and did not work at all.
The burner is under XP and has V256 firmware. Situation seems to have got worse after having installed this last revision of firmware, but apparently there is no way to get back to other versions, the upgrade procedure will not do it.
Can somebody tell me if the problem is related to these brand of disks or to some tricky way to configure the 1008 ? Can a quality problem on DVDs be in the ratio of more than 1 over 2 ?
has someone tried the RITEK R03?
Thanks a lot for your help
