DVD quality vs record time and just need help!

I currently use a panasonic dvd recorder es-20 to download tivo, tv etc. I have started going through my old vhs-c tapes and putting them on dvd through this method. Works great cant believe how good the picture quality comes out. Recording max of 2 hour on dvd is what I use. Now I have a sony minidv camcorder. I cant get it to work very well with the panasonic recorder. So I am looking into buying a lite on 160p6su ez-dub external burner. How good is the image quality and what do I have to look for ? Also my recorder has the option to record 1 hour, 2,4,6 hours or flexible time schedule. Which the 1 and 2 hour look the best. Do burners work like this ? or does it adjust to the size of file… I guess the ez-dub looks very simple to use. havent used anything other than the cd writer in my pc. Which that is very easy also. So is internal the way to go, or would this burner be good for what I am looking to do ? Transfer minidv video to dvd.
Thank you and hopefully this makes sense…
