DVD overburning: is it safe?

I have a question: I saw in Nero an option for DVD overburning. I wonder: how safe is it to overburn a DVD? Is DVD now like CD-R, where it’s OK to go over, as long as you don’t go past lead-out area? Would DVD players & other DVD drives support reading an overburnt DVD-R? Thanks for the info…

PS: I have a Pioneer DVR-108.

It is NOT safe.
However, when using an Plextor 712 or 716 you can probably overburn “a bunch of mb” without getting problems.
