I am new to this forum. Pl help. I have a Dell Centrino Duo with a Sony DVD ±RW DWQ58A. I am unable to read any DVD’s. When i try to play or read a dvd, the drive doesnt read and makes a noise. i am able to read/ write CD.
Pl help.

Welcome to the forum

If the drive has problems only with DVDs but read/write perfectly CDs, then the drive is damaged. There are two separate lasers in the optical pickup, and apparently in your drive the DVD laser is gone.

You should ask for a RMA if the computer is still under warranty, or alternatively you must get a new drive to replace the damaged one.

Thank you for the info. Where can i get a new drive for my laptop and how do i replace it. pl suggest.

To get a new internal drive for your laptop you should ask to the retailer, if the computer is still under warranty.

Alternatively, and maybe the best solution (even if it is more cumbersome) is to get an external drive to be used via the USB port.
