DVD media test with different firmwares for the 2500

vbimport

#1

ok im going to start burning some dvds with my 2500 using various media and different fw versions to compare what fw works best with what media i have. I would like to share my results. using kprobe2 latest version to test with. I will start by burning with stock 1.06, then 107 beta6 then 107 beta 7 then the hp 1.27 (nec108). also for my ritek g04s ill try out herrie experimental stock 1.06 fw with the ritek enhancement (I call it the Ritek Viagra Firmware).

this is just a personal test and i will burn at same speeds for all firmwares. i will post my results here. when herrie comes out with another fw version ill try it.

Yes, but you shouldn’t expect 2 different drives to perform the same, neither the writer or the reader.

no but i shouldnt expect a 6x increase in errors though…:stuck_out_tongue:

plus theres something wrong with this firmware he put on that thread to downolad…it wont play dvds…i think you got a different version than the one he posted as herriesstock.rar also when i try to burn with decryptor i get a servo error with this firmware.

blah gonna reflash it…

ok now have the official 1.07 firmware flashed next test will be that at 4x on the g04.

It won’t play DVD’s

Everyone got he same version of herriestock.rar!

Please keep in mind that there are 2 different types of G04’s (2 different mediacodes). It could be we all used ‘Type 1’ and you have ‘Type 2’?

yup it wouldnt play a older dvd i recorded (mcc) i get a windows error in power dvd when trying to play one. plus id get a servo error when trying to burn with dvddecryptor (recordnow mx let me record). not sure if i got a bad flash or what? but now i have 1.07 stock its working as normal…well no overspeeding but plays dvds fine and decryptor works fine.

i will post media code with the next test.

I had a problem playing with PowerDVD too (could not build graphics playback or something), just after a burn. The trick was to eject the disc and enter it again. I’ve had this with all 1.06 firmwares and previous HP firmwares!

could be i hardly ever use my nec to playback…hehe but decryptor definatly had a issue with that firmware and go4s.

Looks like the same we used for testing. Maybe you have a flaky burner or low graded G04’s ?

i think the burners fine…id say its more a difference in media…mines sold as TDK DVD-R 2x here in the US.

I have a g04 from www.accaproducts.com ill try that next with your firmware…after im done burning the 1.07 version.

#17

no but i shouldnt expect a 6x increase in errors though…

It’s not the degree of difference that it important. The fact is that both examples are of a perfectly readable disc that is far below the specs for max errors.
And 6x difference is fairly common when the range is at the lower end, the difference in reading drives alone can account for it.

Far too much is being made of the error counts, all that matters is that they are well below the max.

#18

I agree 80 pis is way way below the error thresholds. id say though with my previous experience with low error counts and g04s that its a lower quality bundle of g04s…i got alot better results with the www.accaproducts.com one.

what concerned me was decryptor giving me a servo error with that firmware when trying to burn…never seen that before.

official 1.07 fw burned at 4x (g04)

yes thats right only 39 pos highest at 1.

Bah reflashed herriestock.exe and get really high error rates on end of dvd burn with ritek g04s (these are from accaproducts). if i look at the disk the last 3/4 of the burn looks different than the first part (ie simular to what i had herries beta 9a fw and 8x burns). it seems ever since i flashed herries beta 9a firmware and tried to burn a dvd-r at 8x im randomly getting this. subsequent flashing doesnt seem to help much. very strange…guess my drive could be going bad.
