DVD Media Quality with ND-2500A

There seems to be lots of DVD media in the market.
I really get confused with them.
I would like to ask, among the following DVD media, which is the best and which is the worst; or could anyone list the quality in ascending order?

  1. Longten001 (sold as unknown brand, 4x)
  2. Dvsn (sold as unknown brand, 4x)
  3. VDSPMSAB01 (sold as unknown brand, 4x)
  4. ProdiscG02 (sold as Imation SOHOT (here in HK), 4x)
  5. TYG02 (sold as kill6 (here in HK), 8x)

I’ve read the DVD Media Tests here, but I can’t get any ideas from it, as some posts good results, but some posts poor results, using the media with the same DVD media code.

The list’s best is Taiyo Yuden.
It’s not in my authority to judge what’s the worst here.

Hi, Legnerp.

I only know that no. 1, 2, 3 are known to be cheap (or maybe even crappy) media.
They are sold at HK$20-25/10 (about US$2.6-US$3.2). I want to know if they are cheap enough as crappy media.

No. 5 is cheper than no.4 and it is priced at HK$52/11 (about US$0.61 each), so is it reasonably priced as a good medium? If so, I’ll stick to it.

Thank you very much. I know that Taiyo Yuden is on the top list of CD and DVD media. I just want to know how’s TYG02. Is it a true, certified 8x or is it just a 4x media but can be burnt at 8x?

LONGTEN001 and VDSPMSAB01 is just crap, so don’t use it! It’s not worth the plastic it is made of.
PRODISCG02 is actually 2x media. You say it is more expensive than TYG02? I wouldn’t believe it if you didn’t say, because TYG02 seems to be real 8x media (TYG01 is 4x)! So please, go for Taiyo Yuden! :wink:

It is really horrible that PRODISCG02 is 2x media, but sold as 4x here, and more expensive than TYG02. Is brand name really important? Imation here in HK is much more famous than Kill6.

From the five, it looks like a simple decision to me. TY G02 is the only thing you might want to buy with peace of mind.

I wonder why your TY G02 media have no brand name like TDK or Verbatim. “kill6” sounds like noname to me. Maybe, these media have a counterfeit media code.

I ordered some DVD-Rs with mxlrg01 media code for 25cents per disc. Of course, these discs use a fake media code. Original Maxell discs would never be so cheap.

Nevertheless, I decided to give these media a try.

This price seems too good to be true for TY.

Prices vary for different countries. But… TY 8x certified media at 60 cent seems quite suspicious. At least I won’t buy 100 at a time, but maybe worth buying a few and test.

I found a shop in Belgium (my country) where I can buy RICOHJPN R00 DVD+R in jewel case at 60 eurocent a piece. I tested some of those discs and they write perfect for me at 8X.
TY are a bit better DVD+R but the difference is almost nothing.

Traditionally, there were fake TY discs around the China/Hongkong. I have bought serveral fakes just for joy, and yes, they were craps.

Make sure there cheap TY is really the true TYs.

kill6 is a Hong Kong brand. You may visit www.kill6.com to have a look but the site is in Chinese only.
