DVD Identifier Error Detection

I sent to a friend of mine an RW to copy something on it.
When I got back the disc,I was unable to copy the content onto my
HDD. I ran it through DVDShrink and Decrypter,both of them stopped
at the same spot (but if You get around that spot,it continued to
play on Powerdvd and standalone).

I receive more and more discs like that from different sources on
different quality media. I do not have the time nor software to
scan through these disc,but I did notice that checking them with
“DVD Identifier” it instantly gave information about errors (see
the report below on a SONY DVD+RW). If it says ‘ERROR’,I can not
rip the disc. But it also says: “Read Method 2 completed without errors”.
Is there a way to retrieve data from these discs?

If ADIP reading fails, the disc is defective, because it’s the very first stuff on the disc.
I guess only a spot of the disc has really failed, but I don’t know because you don’t scan :smiley: Also, RW media will wear when it’s used a lot, and that’s what might have happened to that disc.

Only 2nd writing on the disc! It defects at the 93minutes mark.
My friend says it’s shit media,but they always say that instead of blaming their burners :wink:

From what I have read, some recent media with the RICOHJPN W11 mediacode seem to be very variable - you might have had a bad batch.

I had the same problem with some FUJI branded W11s. It turned out that for the whole spindle, every disc had a curved dye defect at about the half way mark.

IT was subtle but in the right light at the right angle the defect was apparent.

[B]ADIP Read M1 Failed : Illegal request - Invalid field in CDB [05/24/00][/B]

I got a few DVD+Rs(three different brands!not RWs) from the same source (same burner)
and Identifier comes up with the message above (similar to the SONY+RW I posted
first). However,these seem to be working allright,at least I could rip the content off
and re-burn the stuff. Anybody knows what’s this “invalid field” means and is it actually
a sign of a bad burn or just this program is having trouble scanning some discs?

WHERE is the drive mentioned you have used??
