DVD Fab "process failed! error= 112

Hi all!,
I looked here but couldn’t find an answer, so I’ll ask:
DVD Fab latest version 5.2.3.2
I get error message: “process failed task_2 failed! error=112”
I looked up error codes for version 3 (if this applies to this version) and it states “initialization of writing device has failed”.

I’ve been using dvd fab for a long time, but lately it won’t write for some reason. (many attempts, many diferent movies)

I don’t know if something is flaky with my system or maybe just my drive.
This may have happened after I wiped my HDD and reinstalled everything. The funny thing is I don’t have any problems burning music or files from Windows Explorer.
The error message appears when dvd fab attempts to write, it seems that reading is no problem.

Windows XP home
Plextor DVDR PX-800A
DVD media: Memorex DVD+R DL 8X 8.5GB (have always used this with no problems)

Morning Joe, what burning engine are you using? some people have trouble with the VSO burning engine so they are using the ImgBurn burning engine also your media is not the best and the only recommended DL media for good burns is Verbatim, even though you haven’t had any problems before with Memorex myself I would lean towards the media. If you could post a burn log it would help us troubleshoot your problem. BTW welcome to the Forum

Click on the VSO Burning Engine Support link in my sig. You may have reinstalled some software that is causing a conflict. As Jimbo said, a burn log would really help. It is named [B]dvdfab_burn_vso.log[/B]; just use windows Search to find it. Open it with notepad and copy the last 2 or 3 entry groups and paste into a post.

I can’t find the log, did search, but nothing came up.
I don’t know if it’s the media or not, here’s what I did:
I opened dvdfab and reset it to the default (common settings-general, hit default button) Retried the movie using another disc from the same Memorex container and this time it worked!
I’ve had this problem for a while. The last 5-6 I tried to do, I gave up on.
The only thing I did different this time was resetting DVDFAB to default.
What do you guys think?
Next time I need discs, I will get verbatum, if that’s what you guys suggest. Exactly which discs should I get?

Hi Joe,

Unless you changed (intentionally) the location of the burn log…

The default location is:
[B]C:\Documents and Settings[I]Administrator Name[/I]\My Documents\DVDFab\Log[/B]

There is a good chance your inconsistent results are a function of your media. Without seeing your burn log info, it’s tough to guess, but having said this…

Pick up some some Verbatim +R 16X media…this is the most readily available stuff out there, but really any verbatim media should work. Just don’t pick up DL media (dvd9) until this is sorted anyway.

Please do NOT burn at recommended speed.
You’re best bet is to try at 1/2 the rated speed of the media…or 8X.

If you post a few burn logs, we can give you a more definitive answer.

I see a few things that you need to address

1… [B]"[/B]Media ID: [B]RITEK[/B]-S04-42[B]"[/B]…very low quality and very problematic media…suggestion [B]->[/B] use only Verbatim D/L media.

2…[B]"[/B]Writing speed [B]requested x8.0" [/B]…writing/burning D/L at that speed using low quality media is not a good idea…suggestion [B]-> [/B]if you are going to use the low quality media then burn at 2.4x…B -> [/B]don’t burn at the rated speed of your drive, go by the write strategy that is set on the blank media you are using

3…You are using the Patin-Couffin VSO burn engine you will find that ImgBurn is a much burn engine application and very versatile when it comes to controlling the drive and burn speed and has many outstanding setting to be used, it is freeware and can be set as the burn engine within DVDFab :wink:
