DVD Fab burn fails/crashing

Hello,

I wonder if anybody could help with the following problems I’ve been having since updating to DVDFab6 - I’m now on 6.0.2.2 but it still hasn’t cured my problems.

I run Home Vista Premium, 2GBRAM, with Verbatim dual-layer discs.

Since installing Fab6, the program sometimes - more often than not - crashes after completing the read of the disc to back up. After one or two restarts of the computer, I can eventually burn the disc.

Now however, I’m getting burn fails on Dual-layer - I can’t write single layer for some reason (that’s been going on for a while and will ask a separate question about that) - part-way through the burn or the disc won’t begin the burn.

I’ll atach a log of my last few attempts to burn - I’ll add I didn’t get these problems with versions of Fab before 6.

Please help as I’m ending up with expensive dual-layer discs as coasters!

A couple things to try: 1.) turn down the write speed, you are requesting 8x on an 8x disk, try 4x. 2.) You are getting a power calibration error from your drive. Clean the laser but most likely your DVD drive is dying, that happens to all of them sooner or later.

Would also suggest you try ImgBurn for DLs.

Many thanks.

Is there a guide to install ImgBurn?

EDIT

Forget that - I’ve just looked. Thanks - I’ll give it a go.

Well, I gave DVDFab6 one more go at copying the dual-layer and it worked fine, despite after finalization saying the burn had failed. Frustrating not knowing whether or not each burn will work.

So my problem is intermittent - I have no other programs running whilst burning/reading and it would appear my DVD writer is still up to the task - any ideas?

Yeah, do what Signals said and use ImgBurn as your burning engine. Find a post by Stormjumper, he has very good instructions in his signature. It’s a free download and beats the heck out of the VSO engine that comes packaged with DVDfab.

Thanks for your help. I’ll try it in future and see how I get on. I’m going to revert to Fab5 first though as soon as Fab’s tech support have given me a link to download previous versions. If that fails, I’ll give ImageBurn a whirl.

Thanks again - much appreciated.

If you want an older version you will or may need to send a PM(private message to another member/user and see if they can send it to you by email  and I would not post a email address here in the forum, can lead to un-wanted spam

Yeah xtincol, shoot me a PM with an email address and which version you want, I’ll see if I can help. I got em’ way back.
