DVD Error Correction

These are general error correction questions, but I’m posting them in the software burning forum.

  1. Where are errors in DVD files corrected upon retrieval or playback? In software, in hardware, it depends, in both, or not at all?

  2. Where are logical and physical errors in DVD files corrected when copying the files? Or, are the errors simply propagated? Do standard disk copying tools correct the errors before burning, or do they just burn whatever they read?

Thanks for your assistance.

Any further help on these questions is most appreciated. Does anyone know of software that corrects DVD errors between the read and write processes when copying DVD’s.

According to Roxio, their copying software (Creator and Toast) does not correct DVD errors from the source DVD disk when copying. It propagates the errors, while the burning process introduces even more (logical and physical) errors.
