I’m new here so I don’t know where I should put this thread.
Anyway, today I discovered that my DVD-Drive has disappeared.
I can still make it open, but when I put a DVD in it doesn’t show in My Computer.
I checked device manager and this is what I found under the properties of LITE-ON DVDRW LH-18A1P ATA Device : Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
I’m really confused and haven’t found any solutions yet.
I hope you guys can help me.

Depending on which version of Windows you’re using, follow the instructions on one of these two MS support pages:
You might like to back up your Registry first, or set a System Restore point if you’re wary about manual Registry editing
Wow, that was surprisingly easy.
Thank you very much.
I had my 2 DVD-Drives has disappear after updating Xp with the recent Dot net 3.5 & dot net 2.0 updates.
I was able to fix it by updating the Raid controllers (for the drives) via the Device Manager.
They showed up as exclaimation marks. Right clicked on them & seleceted update (using web)
No RegEdit or anything else required.
Seems the MS update “disconected” them
