Dvd doesn't recognize cds

gooday sir,pls i got a problem with my hardware.it’s an LG DVD RAM GSA-H42N.I just noticed 2day that it is recognized by XP but does not play any cd and when any cd is put into it,it reads it as empty that is no cd is inside while actually there’s a cd there. What can i do?I’ll be grateful if u can help. Thanks

first of lets determinme if its a hardware or software issue , dvd drives have 2 lasers for cds/dvds , one of em can go south leaving the other full functional which could be the case , adjust the bios boot order and put the LG as the first device then insert a bootable cd (such as the windows cd) and try to boot from it , if it fails to boot from it then the drive is shot

:cop: there is really no need to post the same question in several forums :cop:
