DVD Coasters - software/hardware?

Started burning DVD coasters on Plextor PX-712A. CD’s burn perfectly. AMD 64bit system, mem tested, burners firmware was updated long ago, worked well then - all DVD’s now burn to end and fail at lead out. Any help would be appreciated. I don’t know if this is a software or hardware problem. I’ve tried 4 different brands of DVD media - both +R & -R. Below is a log from the last failed burn. Hope someone can help in this mystery.

Also, used to see 2.4x - now, the lowest setting is 4x (for DVD burning).

Dma is off on your 712. Delete the IDE channel it is on and reboot. Burn the Sony discs at 8X.

It could be incompatible media or firmware related. I had a similar problem with a LiteOn SHM-165P6S that had the fail to complete burn at lead out even with Verbatim -R 8X when using latest firmware. Switch to next latest firmware fixed the problem not only with Verbatim but other media with even higher fail to burn rate. I suggest to try different media or different firmware.

I agree about a media issue. ( from the error log: Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR) )

Try a different brand/type of media, I suggest Verbatim or Taio Yuden.

For someone who has an ‘Awfulitch’, you’re one hell of a dvd surgeon. Perfect diagnosis. I deleted the IDE channel, rebooted and problem solved. Have burned 6 DVD’s so far - each of them different brands. All were perfect!!!

I’ve seen so many threads where, I guess, it’s ‘easier’ to blame media for all the problems. All they’re doing is getting people to purchase more blank media and waste them as well. So for all those who suggested it’s ‘bad media’ - the doctor proved you wrong and you others are hearby notified that I will be filing a malpractice suit

All kidding aside, I appreciate everyone’s input (even though only one person hit the problem on the nose).

PS - to the guy with the awful itch …

I was curious what gave you the clue that DMA was off on the drive. I’ve gone through the log I posted and don’t know what to look for. The info would be appreciated, it the event I come across the problem again and am wondering what to look for

Thanks again for the great advice. Hope your ‘itch’ clears up :-0

Thanks - I guess I might have tried the ‘scroll bar’ to show the rest of the line (above).

All I saw was:

Should have had another beer before I asked the question

Cheers,

BB nailed it before I could get back to you. Happy Burning.
