hello all, I have just installed Windows 8, big mistake:a, I am now getting an error message stating that Windows cannot start hardware device (CD/DVD) because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged (Code19). Also the computer is continually freezing. Please, please, please can someone help ne

Have you tried Microsoft’s Fix-It now? http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems/en-us

You can also try the instructions for manually removing upper and lower filters, even though MS doesn’t seem to think it applies to Win 8. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116

If you’d rather not mess around in the registry, you can reset filters using a free burning program called ImgBurn. Start the program, then click on Tools–>Filter Driver Load Order and remove them there. Reboot.

Filter problems will NOT cause freezes however. So that is something else.

Did you do an upgrade install or did you do a clean install of Win 8?

Do you have all the necessary drivers installed for your computer?
