DVD/CD-ROM Problems? (NEC ND-3530A)

[qanda]This thread is about the NEC ND-3530A. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]Ok, recently I have found out that my DVD drive is I believe to be broken. I have downloaded a Mac OS X installer called “iAtkos v4i.iso”, so I could install Leopard on my PC. I have been trying to burn this .iso image to a DVD for the last 4 or 5 days and have been unsuccessfull on every attempt.

When I use MagicISO, it gives me an error that says “can not read CD track information”. I use Nero 8, and it just spits the DVD out of the tray and gives me a log file with an error. Or I try to burn the ISO not as an image, but just to burn it to a DVD, it says the burn was successfull, but the DVD is blank!

I tried uninstalling the driver to the DVD drive and reinstalling it, same problem. Then I swapped DVD drives out of my PC with another PC (same DVD/CD-ROM hardware) and still the same damn problem! So then I format my PC yesterday and am still having the same problem.

Another incident was a few weeks ago, I burned a movie and sat down to watch it like 2 days ago and nothing was on it. Blank DVD!

Is there someone out there that can give me some answers as to what is going on, please!?!?!? I cannot live without my DVD/CD-ROM drive, lol.

Does anyone wanna even take a stab at this one, or am I pretty much hosed?

#3

Perhaps something is wrong with th DL’d iso…What error are you getting with ner0? Post it here…Does explorer see your drive? What media player are you using ? I woud burn with IMGburn instead of MagicISO…What proggies were used to backup and burn the flick that you say is now a “Blank DVD” ???

#4

The iso is not the problem, I have downloaded many versions of the iso from different locations and they all did the same thing. Explorer does see the drive and it does read CD’s & DVD’s. I use iTunes mainly and WMP. I used ConvertXtoDVD 3, which I have used this wonderful program now for the last 2 or 3 years.

Here is the error I get when I use Nero 8:

RITEK F1 isn’t the best media, and it seems your burner doesn’t like it much either, going by the error.

Are you deliberately burning at 2x, or is that the only speed offered to you?

If it’s the latter, you might like to see if there’s a firmware update for the drive that’ll support that media.

Or, the answer to the whole problem could be better media - maybe try some Sony or Verbatim

#6

No, the iAtkos.iso is supposed to be burned slowly to eliminate any errors. But I tried it fast & slow, so I know thats not it.

#7

Someone had directed me to a aspi driver to download on another website. It was not supported by Vista, so it would not install. I have downloaded a file called FrogASPI which is supposed to be a replacement of the ‘WnAspi32.dll’ library and is compatible with Vista. Where exactly would I place this .dll, cuz it sure as hell is not telling me.

That has to be wrong. Thousands of people have downloaded this same exact iso and burned it, and installed it successfully. It cant be the media. Not to mention there is a specific site I get all my movies from, and have downloaded from it for the last few years, and every single file has been perfect.

#10

Did thousands of people use MagicISO to burn it? did they use the same exact media(disc type)? just trying to help here…

#11

I used PowerISO, UltraISO, and Nero 8 as well. It wasnt just MagicISO.

Media means the discs, not the file you’re downloading.

The RITEK F1 mediacode (look at the log) isn’t the best, even if it’s bought under a brand like Maxell or whatever.

It’s worthwhile trying a small pack of better discs (preferably one of the two brands I mentioned), really it is

#13

I use Memorex, and have for about 3 or 4 years now. They work pretty well actually, for me at least.

#14

Well memosux have been just ok for me, so I guess you’re one of the lucky one’s …Try IMGburn with those memorex discs see if that helps…Good luck!..

#15

Ok I just tried IMGburn, and got an error.

Then I get a second error when I close the 1st one out that reads: “Failed To Reserve Track! Reason: Cannot Write Medium - Incompatible Format”.
