Dvd burning takes forever

I’ve purchased a px-716a recently and dvd burning takes forever. Initially, the drive was plugged into the old IDE ribbon that was in the computer. I figured that slow burning was due to the fact that I didn’t use the ribbon that came with the drive. I plugged in the ribbon that came with the drive just now and it still burns DVDs extremely slow.
I’m using Nero to burn DVDs, 8X DVD-Rs. Nero “allows” me to burn at 12X. It takes about 25+ minutes to burn a single DVD.

Well, my computer specs are:

3.4Ghz P4
1.5GB PC3200 RAM
Windows 2000

Any ideas?
I searched the forum for this and nothing useful came up.

Edit: The jumper on the plextor drive is set on master.

Search for “DMA Mode”.

Thanks a lot.
It burns a DVD-R at 12x in under 8 minutes now (7min 21 seconds total) .

Glad I could help.

you should be able to get well under 7mins @12X with some decent media. give some Taiyo Yuden and/or Verbatim a try.
