I use a Sony DVD RW DRU-700A.

What can be the cause and how can I solve this?

Greetings,

Joop.

I think that before anyone can help you they would need to know what O/S you have, what burner software you are using & what the DVD media is. That driver looks like it’s from EasyCD Creator 5, which is a bit ancient now.

eagleye, please post the entire Nero log.

DRF

Hello,

Here is the complete logfile. It was generated after the burning process failed. This process was started by DVD Shrink after encoding. Operating system is WinXP Pro, Nero 6 (that came with the Sony DVD Burner) and Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum are installed as well ( my wife thinks that this program is better for the covers than Nero).

Greetings,

Joop.

Thats not a lot of memory. Maybe get a couple of 512 sticks that would help everything run better. Encoding must take forever.

Hello,

I installed the latest firmware, checked the DMA settings (DMA if available is the setting in XP), removed Easy CD Creator and used 4 empty DVD’s (Maxell). The burning process is still failing. One time the whole cp was stuck. Even the clock didn’t run anymore. What othere options are available to make it work? In the past I never had a problem and then I used HP dvd’s.

It looks like you still have a driver left from Easy CD creator. The easiest way to remove it is to run the Nero driver clean tool.

That firmware is supposed to support those discs, but the log still shows no media specific support. You’ve only got 48MB of memory free. Make sure no other programs are open or running while you are burning. Don’t use the computer while you are burning.

@ DRF, eagleye
I just looked and the firmware DOES support that media, but DRF is also correct that the burn error includes a blank support section. My guess is that the burner is not reading the disc properly. I would try either a different disc of that batch or try different media that is known to produce good results. It may be caused by what DRF is saying as well. Trying different(quality) media will answer that question.

To add to the CD Creator removal suggestion, I might consider removing nero as well as any other burn programs you have, using the nero clean tool, then install nero again. That has been known to help.

Another suggestion to deal with your low memory is to defrag your HDD often and have 5+GB free continuous space for an image to be burned to your HDD. Running an anti-spyware program(spybot, etc) may also help. Don’t use the system while ripping either.

If none of this stuff works, post a nero infotool output with your next post. You may have other conflicts that we are overlooking. Make sure you have all 8 boxes checked and save as a .txt file. Attach using the ‘manage attachments’ button in the ‘go advanced’ reply window.

Hello,

I uninstalled Easy Creator and Nero as well using the Neri Remove tool. Then I installed Nero again and also the latest updates from the Nero website.
First I tried to burn a dvd using the Maxell medium. That didn’t work. After about 5 minutes the burning process stops with the message that there is a write error. Sp I used a HP DVD+R disc. There was the same mistake after about 5 minutes.
I ran the Nero Info Tool and the file is attached to this message. When the info tool was running there was a message:

G:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe
G:\Windows\system32\autoexec.nt
The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows Applications. Choose close to terminate the application.

I choose Ignore otherwise the file was not made.

Greetings,

Joop.

PS

I bought the burner in July and had no problem with at all till this week. I burnt 14 dvd’s with it and all are good.

@ eagleye
Things look OK in your infotool log except for possibly this

Adapter 3

Description : Intel® 82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller - 2444

Driver
Description : System32\DRIVERS\usbuhci.sys
Company : Microsoft Corporation
Version : 5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)
Description : UHCI USB Miniport Driver

Attached Devices
Description : HP USB Device
Type : Disk Drive

Is this an external HDD that you are burning from? That may be a problem. If not, I still would think that it is a media issue and you need to try some media that is known to work consistently well in your drive. Since we all have looked at several possibilities, it would be very helpful to be able to rule out the media issue. If that is a problem for you, trying the drive in another system could be another thing to try.

Eagleye, take at look at this, especially the message from geo: http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/t1103634768

That might fix the error with Nero Info tool.

Thanks for your reply. This problem is solved. Does this also influence the problem of burning or just the problem with generating the Info Tool Log file.

Greetings,

Joop.

This is the HP PSC 1350 all-in-one. It never caused a problem with burning dvd’s in the past.

Greetings,

Joop.

I burned a cd-rw and there was no problem.

Another suggestion to deal with your low memory is to defrag your HDD often and have 5+GB free continuous space for an image to be burned to your HDD. Running an anti-spyware program(spybot, etc) may also help. Don’t use the system while ripping either
Did you follow up on this stuff? This might help. However since you are getting ‘medium error’ and burning a cd-rw worked, I still think there is a media quality issue that may be the problem. Could you try to get some media that works well in your burner to eliminate that as a possibility? Since your burner is a rebadged Liteon 1633, you can look in the Liteon media guide I prefer discs with the media code RICOHJPNR01

Till now I used Maxell DVD-R and HP DVD+R. Sunday I’ll have another medium that my daughter will bring for me from The Netherlands. I think it is Philips. (DVD’s are very expensive in Brazil).
I use AdWare, a firewall, virusscanner etc. I also closed all open appliciations. Defrag I did last week. How do I set 5+GB free continuous space?

I tried however to burn another movie and this one also failed. There was a power calibration error. Maybe that shed some new light on the case.

And now it is party time. I wish everybody a Happy New Year and thanks for the help with solving my problem.

Greetings,

Joop.

@ eagleye
happy new year!

That is good news on the new(hopefully quality) media coming in for you.

Good job on observing better burning procedures. As for defragging, if you rip and burn several times a week and/or do a lot of surfing, you may want to run disc cleanup and defrag once a week. I don’t think I said this before but i always run disc cleanup before defragging. If you do it often, it doesn’t take too long, only a few minutes

Sorry to hear about the ‘power calibration’ error. Did you save the error report? Since it is different(that may be a good thing as it may mean we solved the other problems), can you post it after removing your name and serial number?

You can see what your HDD looks like before and after you use disc cleanup and defrag. In the defrag program, you should run ‘analyze’ and see what your HDD looks like. Then run ‘defrag’. After defrag there should be some large white areas(empty HDD space) that you can estimate as to what size they are…hopefully they will be 5+GB in size. If you don’t have 5+GB(10 or more is better!), then you may benefit from dumping some stuff off of your HDD to make some room. You can also do the ‘analyze’ in the defrag program(but not ‘defrag’), then rip a movie, then run ‘analyze’ in the defrag program again and ‘see’ where the file was ripped to and if it is defragged.

Has anyone considered that the drive may be faulty?? I had a Sony DRU-510a which started producing similar write errors - I tried it in a friend’s machine with similar results. I ended up sending it back & getting a replacement (under warranty, thankfully).

Haven’t gotten that far yet in the troubleshooting process since there were other problems to resolve first
