DVD Burning problem- Crazy stuff

Hello to the gurus,
So, I am desesperate…
I am using NERO 6 to burn DVD movies. This works fine for several months and more than 100 DVDs.
1 week ago, just want to burn a new one. Everything looks OK, but not playable and in Explorer no files on DVD.

Start to use Nero Reload. Look at a lot of forums.
I did upgrade the firmware of my Lite On. Stop using INCD. Even go to msconfig to disable the write DVD service in XP (as told in some forums). Did remove winaspi and reinstall the NERO Reload programs. Removed the DVD drive and reinstall it. Tried High Compatibility mode and not.

What I mention is that NERO tells me burn OK but when you look at disc info, the DVD is empty. Even tries to reburn… burn processing successful… but same problem on and on.
When you look at the DVD it seems burned (partly shadowed).

Same problem when writing normal files on DVD.
Writing files to CDs is OK.
I still can read previouly burned DVD on my computer.
I used several cheap and expensive DVDs (all +R as always). Nothing works.

So I don’t care to buy a new DVD writer but at least I would like to know if it’s not a software problem.

I put everything again like before and Reinstall NERO.

Hope someone can help me. I will buy you a drink… if you come to bangkok.

I think nero is the problem. Nero is identifying this disc as a DVD+RW

when a CMCMAGE01 is 8X+R media.

So it looks like Nero formats the disc as a rewriteable BEFORE burning to it

Sounds like a funky bug or poor disc identification from nero or some very shady media. You may try uninstalling nero, using the nero CleanTools and reinstalling again. Maybe even try a fresh download of nero to install.

Thank you all for such a quick research.

So, I did cleanup with the NERO tools before and had already a fresh download and setup.

Also, forgot to tell you I have the same problem with other software (always uninstall the others so there is just one and only one burning software installed).

Now I checked the DMA. I had PIO Mode. I put DMA if available.
Reboot, try again with a Philips DVD+R 4x.
Windows still consider it as a DVD+RW.
After burning and checking info NERO tell me there is no disc inserted.
Check the DMA - Window says “Current Transfer Mode : PIO”.
Checked on the internet, some say it could be a hardware failure (see http://www.cdrinfo.com/Forum/printable.asp?m=66157).

I think we need to determine if it is the firmware/drive that is doing the identifying, or if it is nero that is changing what is being identified correctly. Get Kprobe and go ‘info/disc’ and post what it says. Do the same with DVD Identifier . If these are showing the proper attributes for the media you have, I would think that it is nero somehow changing the media type. I would probably send all this into nero and see what they say. Maybe one of the nero guys that float around here can comment.

Have you tried disks with a different media type ?

Hi,
Yes I did, several brands 4x 8x +R -R cheap and expensive ones.
Before usually always used the philips 4x +R. Never had problems.

So,
After reading some interesting stuff (thanks to you all) I just had to remove the IDE of the system. Reboot… and whoaw… ULTRA DMA 2…

Start NERO… as you see DMA is ON.

Burn DVD… still same problem but now he tells me after burning that the CD is unreadable.
Explorer tells me CD-DRIVE used space 0, free space 0…

So I guess it was not a DMA problem.

I think I gonna go for a laptop burning hardware tool I will call “A lighter” to burn all my stuff.
