DVD burning at 20x - review at CDRInfo

The guys over at CDRInfo have tested some Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden 16x DVD media burned at 20x on a handful of writers and compared the results with a DaTARIUS scanner. They also tested readability, but unfortunately only in the drive that did the burning so the readability results cannot be compared across drives.

The article/review is here:

http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews/Specific.aspx?ArticleId=22987

They conclude that:

  • 20x writing affects burn quality negatively
  • Taiyo Yuden 16x DVD+R (YUDEN000 T03) performed best of the tested media
  • Pioneer DVR-215 performed best of the tested drives

The review and your own experiences with 20x writing can be discussed in this thread.

Why no LiteOn 20X Burners used ?

I tried 203B , 203D . LiteOn 20A1P and 20A4P and Panasonic TYG03 had no problems at all with excellent scans at up to 16x scanning speeds with LiteOn burners giving lower PIFs and much , so much lower PIEs specially near the edge .

Now , if they can send me a Datarus , I can compare home based scanning with professional scanning :stuck_out_tongue:

Their machines hardly correlate with everyday devices but you can indeed see some results where the TRT does have problems. I think the system is fairly accurate because of that.

At the same time I would also love to see one of your best scans get scanned in a datarius, Minaelromany :stuck_out_tongue:
