DVD burner reading really slow when copying!

I have a BenQ DW1620A burner with the newest firmware update. When I go to copy a DVD it takes roughly 23-25 minutes to read, but when I put a blank disc in it writes the disc in roughly 8 minutes at 12x speed, which is fine. Can anyone tell me why it’s taking so long to read the DVDs? I’m using the newest AnyDVD and CloneDVD software. Thanks for all your help in advance!

My 2 BenQ 1620s do the exact same thing. Sometimes, rarely, very rarely, it will read an entire DVD in 5 minutes. 20 minutes is normal (Normal?#@!).
So, I’ve got the same problem, except I’ve got two of them.

16X DVD Burners are “normally” maxxed out on DVD9 at 8X read and dvd5 at 12-14X.

I’ve had a Nec 2500 8X, Nec 3500 16x and now the Benq dw1620 16x They all have maxxed out at 7.2X when ripping a dual layer CSS protected disc.

DVD-Rom readers are the way to go for ripping and here is the DVD Decrypter log for you to peruse.

Well, that’s great, but certainly does not apply because I have no desire to strap a DVD reader to the outside of my micro atx case.

We’re talking about BenQ drives, now 3 of them that read at 2.4x.

Pio 4 limit is 8x. Pio mode, cable issues, dma issues do not apply.
Writing speeds are fast, and at the advertised speeds.
Drivers could be a far-out possibility.
Personally, I cannot get awful performance from the BenQ. I get worse!!!

We hope to achieve 8x reads, but even 4x reads would be really wonderful!
Firmwares in use are B7H9, B7K9, B7M9, B7P9

Reading 20 minutes, or even 18 minutes (no compression) is very boring.
Compared side-by-side with a Sony DVD-RW, Sony=6 minutes, BenQ=18 minutes.
Same discs.

Does anyone else have these slow read times?
Has anyone overcome it?
Thanks again!!!
