heck, it does seem your right.
i would consider uninstalling the drive from device manager and then reinstalling it and rebooting and see what happens.
if that dont work i cant think of much else to say off the top of my head besides the burner might have possibly gone bad... but then again since you said it was working perfect prior to removing the drive from the pc, that's what makes me think you might need to uninstall the device and re-detect it from windows.
also what program are you using to burn your discs? ... i would try ImgBurn.
